Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
May 10, 2013
So, I just got this printer, the rebate deal was too sweet, but I'm having feeder trouble. I know that there is a manual an auto feeder on the back, but I can't get the auto to take more than one sheet at a time, and I have to position it into the rollers by hand. I haven't had a chance to contact Canon, though I will, but thought I'd put it out here in the mean time. I bought online from B&H, and don't even want to know what return shipping would be,
thanks

Just wondering if you ever were able to resolve your paper feed problem. I am having the same problem on a brand new Canon Pixma Pro-100...

I just bought a supposedly refurbished Pro-100 (not from Canon, but some dealer) and got a unit with the same issue. Upon closer inspection it turns out that the paper feed tray that is supposed to push the stack of paper towards the feeding roll is stuck on the left side (looking from the front). This is the side where a plastic mechanism is pushing it back or releasing the pressure upon which the tray should come forward by itself, but does not.
I don't see how one could fix this on your own, because the stuck part seems to be behind said tray. You can manually spin the mechanism then pull the tray forward and it will work for one print. But once it's pushed back again it will again get stuck.

Re: Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
I have a Canon pro 100.
I am trying to print fine art paper (140 lb watercolor paper) from the manual feed tray.
I must do this for a requirement from a client for a commission painting.
I am able to print this paper in this tray in a 10 x 14 size.
I am unable to print this paper in this tray in a 14 x 20 size. (maximum width)
The error message continues to be that the paper is not loaded in the "rear tray".
I have been able to do this sometime in the past. But not now.
Help!
Re: Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
Im having problems. Printed one photo on 13x19 paper. It was okay. Now keep getting load paper message.
Re: Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
Can this printer even print 14x20. I was told it's 13x19
Re: Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
Did you change your printer preference to manual feed?

I hadn't used my printer in quite a while and was unhappy to find it just sat there, clicking and groaning, not feeding from either tray, finally delivering a message that the printer needs repair. This came after my other printer was also misbehaving. Rather than throw the Canon out the window, my inclination, I just pounded the crap out of one corner. It fussed, ground, clicked, and finally fed the paper, making a perfect print. Can we ever have anything that just works?

It MUST be fed from the top (open the top feed). If you want to feed from the back, you must change the parameters to "manual feed". It would be SO much easier to have it the other way around so I could put in on my printer shelf; the top feed prevents this and I have to put it in full view on the top of my table. Dumb.
Re: Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
having that issue right now, I have tried everything, ready to chuck it out the window. Same for got it with a camera deal at B&H but it was in January and I'm just opening it up because we were remodeling and moving. I have a feeling I'm screwed.
Re: Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
Can you state exactly what your problem is? I have a Pro-100 and have not experienced any printing problems.

How many sheets of paper are you trying to load?
1
IIRC the Canon documentation says somewhere that the top sheet feeder should not be filled with more than 10 sheets of letter (or A4) paper or 20 sheets of 4x6 inch (or A6) paper. Presumably it depends a little on the thickness and slickness of the paper, but this seems like an important guideline.
This week one of the guys at work must have printed 30 to 50 pictures on letter-size paper. They were on Canon Glossy Photo Paper, GP-701, which is a moderate-cost, thinner-than-some paper, but not super-thin (it's 200 g/m^2) or obviously cheap. AFAIK, he did not have any feed problems, and I know he loaded at least several sheets of paper at a time.

Yes same problem with both feeders. The paper is not caught between rollers. Considering the # of similar complaints, I think Canon screwed up again.

An old thread. But I have two of these printers. It will not feed sheets from top or back. 1st printer had the issue after 4 months. Now the 2nd one is dead too.
So many issues reported. But Canon will never get my money again.

The manual feed tray on the Pro-100 is garbage. They should have kept the design that was used on the Pro 9000mkII, which was a flat, straight-through path. I have never had one misfeed with my 9000mkII in the nine years I've owned it.

Yeah...I can get these to feed if I fight with them, but I will be going back to Epson, though they don't make a quality product either.
The issue is the massive amount of plastic in these things...made as cheaply as possible, even when you buy more expensive units.
I spoke to Canon 30 minutes ago and the guy pretty much admitted that the Pro 100 is plagued with this issue. But they still sell them!

Re: Anybody have paper feed trouble with a Pixma Pro-100?
I've been using a Pixma Pro 100 rigorously for 6 months now and it's not failed me once, thankfully (whereas my Epson sucked for paper feeding). But at the price I got it for I'd assume there is some variation in quality. I just consider them disposable at that price (well, almost). But in that scenario the unfortunate thing is the waste of it all - all that plastic isn't good for disposing.
I just realized the PP 100 is a 2012 model. If Canon expects models to last that long (it's 2018 now) then, yes, they should be more robust! Makes me wonder when we should expect a refresh...

Well, I'm a little embarrassed to see this when looking through my old threads and realize I never responded to it. Although, since it went months before the first response I don't feel too bad.
Anyway, Canon replaced my original without fuss, I went through a phone exchange with a tech, 'try this, now try this, ok, we'll send you a new one'. Replacement worked fine.

I have the problem SOLVED !. During printing, You MUST close the narrow 'flap' in the so-called 'Rear slot' (which is the first paper slot when you are facing the printer). Otherwise, you will be stuck with no printing and the yellow light keep flashing 3 times and show your paper is not taken up. Hope this work for everyone

Didn't and I threw the printer away. Bought an Epson and it works okay.
I've had too many Canon products go belly up on me, nearly as bad as Sony.
